Working to support the over 50s in Garth, Trevor & Fron
I am the Community agent for Llangollen Rural Community Council and will be working and helping to access the free services for the over 50s in the area and to liaise closely with third sector organisations (such as Charities, voluntary sector etc) for the benefit of local communities.
In particular I hope to improve interest and participation in voluntary activities across the communities of Garth, Trevor and Froncysyllte building on the good work already in hand. My role is to network and facilitate and much will depend on your help and support in establishing local community groups and projects. One immediate task I am engaged on is a Community calendar to reflect the beauty of our local area so please continue to send in those photos.
From my conversations locally I know there are many other ideas and interests local residents have and I would be delighted to hear from you on 07956292546 /email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can take these further. In the next few weeks I hope to get around to see as many people as I can and keep you updated on what is new and developing through our local newsletter.
What is a Community Agent?
Helping older people in Wrexham achieve a better quality of life!
Community Agents are an innovative response to a recognised need that many people living in our communities are unable to connect with key services that help and maintain well-being and support their quality of life.
Community Agents work with the over 50s in Wrexham, providing easy access to a wide range of information that will enable them to make informed choices about their present and future needs.
The aim is to help older people feel more independent, secure, and cared for, and to have a better quality of life.
Community Agents will support people living in areas of Wrexham, bridging the gap between the local community and the statutory or voluntary organisations and are able to offer help or support.
The scheme works because Agents live close to/ in the communities in which they work. Consequently, they know the villages and their people well.
Agents provide an overview of services available in the county and offer help to access them. They help in myriads of other ways too - thus winning the trust of those they help and enabling particularly older people to stay independent for longer.
